About PNI

Clinical
Psychoneuroimmunology

A discipline that studies how the mind, the nervous system, hormones and immunity are deeply connected — and how this connection explains why we get ill.

What it is

We are not separate compartments

Conventional medicine tends to divide the body into specialties: the cardiologist for the heart, the gastroenterologist for digestion, the psychiatrist for the mind. PNI argues that this separation is artificial.

Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology is the science that studies the constant communication between four major body systems: the nervous system, the immune system, the endocrine system (hormones) and the psyche (emotions, stress, life experiences). All four speak the same molecular language — cytokines, neuropeptides, hormones — and influence each other in real time.

When one of these systems is persistently out of balance, the others suffer. This is where chronic illness appears: not as a single organ failure, but as the result of systemic dysregulation that often has its roots in habits, trauma, silent inflammation or microbiota dysfunction.

How it works

From symptom to root cause

PNI doesn't treat the symptom: it investigates why the body generated that symptom in the first place.

Through a detailed case history, analysis of the person's life history and interpretation of lab tests and complementary exams, we build a complete picture: inflammatory axes, digestive or hormonal dysfunctions, stress and sleep patterns, microbiota, emotional state.

From there, the plan is not a list of supplements: it's an intervention on the causes. Changes in nutrition, stress management, sleep, physical activity, microbiota and, when needed, validated clinical supplements — all adapted to each person's individual biology.

The goal is not to silence the symptom with a pill. It's for the body to stop needing that symptom.

Clinical scope

What we treat

PNI covers a wide range of conditions. Below you'll find the main clinical areas, with concrete examples of the dysfunctions and pathologies it addresses.

🫁Digestive system & microbiota

The gut microbiota is the core of systemic health. Its dysfunctions manifest well beyond the digestive tract.

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)
  • Increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's, ulcerative colitis)
  • Chronic gastroesophageal reflux
  • Intestinal candidiasis
  • Chronic constipation or diarrhoea
🛡️Immune system & autoimmunity

A dysregulated immune system can attack the body's own tissue or overreact to stimuli that pose no real threat.

  • Hashimoto's thyroiditis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriasis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Food allergies and intolerances
  • Recurrent infections
🌸Skin & dermobiome

The skin reflects internal health. Many skin conditions are rooted in microbiota, inflammation or hormonal dysregulation.

  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Atopic dermatitis and eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Seborrhoea and dandruff
  • Accelerated skin ageing
⚗️Hormones & endocrine system

Hormones coordinate almost every biological process. Their imbalance affects weight, energy, sleep, mood and fertility.

  • Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
  • Metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Fertility issues
  • Menopause and perimenopause
  • Adrenal fatigue and cortisol dysfunction
🧠Nervous system & mental health

The gut-brain connection is bidirectional. Anxiety, depression or neuroinflammation often have a treatable biological basis.

  • Chronic anxiety
  • Depression
  • Neuroinflammation
  • Headaches and migraine
  • Chronic stress
  • Concentration and memory difficulties (brain fog)
🔥Chronic pain & inflammation

Low-grade sustained inflammation is the root of many chronic diseases. Identifying its cause is the first step.

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Chronic joint pain
  • Diffuse muscle pain
  • Cardiovascular disease of inflammatory origin
💤Sleep & energy

Sleep is the body's primary repair mechanism. Its disruption affects all systems and amplifies every other health problem.

  • Chronic insomnia
  • Persistent fatigue despite sleeping
  • Daytime hypersomnia
  • Circadian rhythm disruption
  • Non-restorative sleep
👶Integrative paediatrics

The first 1,000 days of life programme lifelong health. Paediatric PNI works the gut-brain-skin-lung axes from a preventive and integrative perspective.

  • Infant colic and digestive problems
  • Childhood allergies and intolerances
  • Childhood atopic dermatitis
  • Asthma and recurrent respiratory problems
  • ADHD and attention difficulties
  • Neonatal microbiota and health programming
